The French Colonial Empire begins when the Age of Discovery begins with Columbus' voyage and the future discovering of the new world. They start to set up many colonies in what is now Canada and the Caribbean. There is soon a land grab between France and England and England defeats in a series of wars that leaves North America almost completely to England and Spain, with the final show of defeat is when Napoleon sells the Louisiana territory to America. However France does not give up and they start voyages towards Africa and Asia where they set up more colonies and inflicting their culture in the residents. this is the cause of most of North Africa speaking French. Eventually the colonies fight for freedom in a series of wars in the 1800s and 1900s. Now almost all of the French colonies are gone with only a few small islands and archipelagos which are called French territories.
